Pharmacognosy is an interesting area of science. I have always been very interested in herbs and natural medicines. I feel we are losing a lot of important knowledge from our past about the medicinals found in nature. This branch of pharmacology explores the bioactive chemicals found in nature's wealth of organisms....both plant and animal. Organic synthesis is a very important tool, but nature has been at this game much longer than we have......and we have a lot to learn!!!!!

University of Mississippi's Department of Pharmacognosy

Located in the Pharmaceutical Science College in Oxford, Mississippi. Nice site.

Alkaloids

Nice beginner site that explains some of the different types of alkaloids found in nature. There is also information on herbs here.....brought to you by Georges-Louis Friedli,PhD.

SW School of Botanical Medicine

Michael Moore's site has all kinds of excellent references as well as some good illustrations of medicinal herbs. Very useful site...it even has a great database of known plant constituents and other interesting information.

Medicinal Plant Databases

Another nice site full of useful information. All kinds of topics are covered here...including pharmacognosy! Tons of links!!!!

The Essential Oil Company

This is a good place to get high quality essential oils. "The President of The Essential Oil Company, Mr. Robert Seidel, has established N.E.O.N. (The Native Essential Oil Network). NEON's mission is to promote small scale distillation and extraction of essential oils and related botanical products. Helping people to help themselves by showing them how to utilize untapped natural resources in an environmentally conscious manner."

The Healing Spectrum

"The Healing Spectrum presents a range of resources that support healing in all its aspects. Both Alternative and Allopathic Medicine are profiled, as well as other disciplines that can be used to promote healing." Provided by Diane Marcotte of Ontario Canada.
