I have Cherokee and Choctaw ancestry through my father. Above is a photo of my Father's Father holding my nephew Paul. This is a very old picture! Paul has his own baby now! My Grandfather was from Eastern Oklahoma and lived his entire life there. He loved to fish. I remember his arms were scarred up all the time from noodling catfish!
I am just under 1/4 Native American, but in my heart I am fullblood. When I was a child I used to be afraid I was losing my Indian blood everytime I got a cut. My Mom used to think it was funny. I do too, now that I am older, but at the time it was really scary! Now I know you can never lose what is in your heart unless you give it away. My father used to tell me that personal integrity was the most precious gift we owned. No one could ever take that away from you...no matter what.
There was a grave injustice done to our ancestors when the Europeans invaded this land. I am thankful that the Spirit is returning in the Peoples. The ancient wisdom carried in the hearts and blood of our ancestors is too precious to lose. I have enjoyed learning all I can about the old ways and beliefs. The net has some great sites that share the ways and stories.
