I have learned many things from my ferrets. I guess they have trained me well!!!! At the moment I have two ferrets. Tristan, my male, passed away from adrenal cancer last spring. Sadie and Lunatic (Luna), my two girls, still keep me busy! Sadie is losing her hair due to adrenal disease, just like Tristan. There are few things as unattractive as a bald ferret, but I still love her to pieces. Below are a few ideas that has made life so much easier for me and my kids!
Hate cleaning out the smelly litter pan while your ferrets maul you? Buy several litter pans and keep one with fresh litter handy to swap out with a soiled pan. It takes just a second or two to give your ferrets a fresh cage, and you can get around to cleaning the dirty pan at your convenience. This is great if you don't have a lot of time on your hands, and your ferret really appreciates it!
Stinky Ferret? Try making a ferret duster out of an old worn out sock. Put some dry shampoo powder in the sock and tie an overhand knot above it to contain the powder. Now gently rub the sock over your ferret to coat its fur lightly with the powder. For storage, place the sock inside the shampoo container and screw the lid back on. This works great for stinky dogs too!
Sick Ferret? Can't get them to eat or drink? Try placing a little "Ferretone" on the tip of a water bottle ... very few ferrets can resist. Make a mush out of their favorite food with a little warm water and use a syringe to feed them small amounts. "Ferretone" might be useful here too! When my male ferret underwent surgery, this was the only way I could get him to take food and water.
