Ahhhh......Biochemistry.....the stuff of life! I have been fascinated with the inner workings of life's molecular machinery since I opened my first book on the subject. I began my studies of Biochemistry under Dr. Rick Wright of SOSU. He stressed understanding the structure-function relationship of biomolecules. Root causes for diseases and genetic disorders are being uncovered rapidly as we gain more understanding of this relationship. DNA research has opened up tons of new exciting applications. Biotechnology has some interesting applications. There are many sites that help us keep up with this rapidly expanding field. Below are some fun sites to start with.
OSU Department of Biochemistry
Nice Site! Home of the Biochemistry Department at OSU located in the beautiful Noble Research Center.
Great educational pages from the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Several interactive shockwave tutorials explain DNA science concepts. Really slick stuff here! You can download to play later or go thru the tutorials online. Fantastic demonstrations of PCR, Southern blots, and more!
The RasMol Home Page. This is where you can download a really slick program that allows you to look at the structure of proteins. You can get great files below!!!!!
This is a "user friendly" place to get your RasMol PDB files for viewing! Great stuff!!!
The home of the National Institutes of Health. All kinds of great info on our nation's premiere research institutions.
Biotech Life Science and Resource Tools
Nice site with all kinds of resources. There is a search engine a great life science dictionary here. Provided by the Indiana Institute for Molecular and Cellular Biology at Indiana University. There are direct links to major scientific databases here too. If you can't find it here, you probably can't find it!
NIH Computational Molecular Biology
Excellent Desk Reference online.
Guide to Selected Resources in Chemistry and Biochemistry
This is a great place to get information. Lots of links to publications and internet resources. Provided by Louisiana State University.
Excellent link page of resources on the internet of scientific organizations and databases on the internet.
Data base covering all known species of plants, animals, fungi, and microbes currently known to science. This will be an interesting and useful site. It is just getting started.
