The young people, pastors and laymen of several churches in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico, (west of Mexico City) have invited the students of our church to share in an innovative outreach that could dramatically impact one of the most beautiful colonial capital cities in the Mexican highlands.
You are invited to make a difference in your world during your 2000 spring break: Go AWOL!! Not “absent without leave” but “A Work of Love!” We are going to live in the homes of the young people of the churches and do what they do: school, work, athletics, you name it. That will help everyone share of God’s plan for every life.
You are invited – actually commissioned by Jesus himself – to be a part of this strategic opportunity. Cost is not a factor: God will provide! Language is not a barrier: enthusiasm speaks to the heart of every person, beyond the ability of tongue to communicate! Your availability is the gift God asks. Shekinah will combine with the Mexican youth to sing in the rallies.
There may be conversational Spanish classes in January and February to help us get ready. You will have your own testimony translated into a bilingual witnessing tract. Translators will be there to help as well. We will help you prepare, but God will meet your every need.

Itinerary
Friday, March 3
We will leave on the last flight this evening from Dallas to Mexico City. We will spend the night in a nice hotel near the airport.
Saturday, March 4
Our buses will meet us at the hotel and take us to Morelia with the youth from Pachuca. On the way, we will have lunch.
When we arrive in Morelia, you will meet your AWOL youth partner, get your church and home assignment, then go move in.
We will all meet back at the Second Baptist Church for dinner and the kick-off rally for all the youth and workers who will be involved for the week. It will be a time of worship and celebration in three languages: English, Spanish, and music!
Sunday, March 5
This morning you will go to your assigned church and share your testimony and get to know everyone there.
This afternoon we will go to public areas around the city (parks, playgrounds, soccer fields, etc.) and meet other young people, doing what they are doing. There you and your partner will have an opportunity to share what Jesus means to you and how others can make Him their savior too.
Tonight there will be a city-wide youth rally in the municipal auditorium. The local young people who sing will join Shekinah and our worship team. People will have an opportunity to respond to the gospel.
Monday, March 8
This morning you will have breakfast with your family and then either go with your partner to their school or participate in some other project like some cleanup/fixup jobs, work with medical teams that may go, or go on evangelism assignments. Lunch is provided.
Tuesday, March 9 (continued)
In the afternoon, you will go with your partner and share your faith as you go.
Tonight, there will be services in each participating church. We will sing, give testimonies and invite people to receive Jesus.

You will have some time to look around in groups. As we leave the city for the airport, we will see the vast Chapultepec Park. We will depart in the afternoon and return to Dallas in the evening.
Relationship with the SBC International Mission Board (formerly Foreign Mission Board)
The local churches in Morelia and the missionaries in Mexico have invited you to come. Travel health insurance is provided by the IMB for all volunteers and the cost is included in the program. This is a cooperative venture with the IMB and will be assigned a project number.
Costs and payments
Every effort has been made to keep the costs as low as possible. The costs include preparation, air travel, bus, homes for accommodations and all meals. Air prices fluctuate; consequently costs cannot be guaranteed until a $100 non-refundable deposit has been received. This mission effort is a tax-deductible donation for tax-purposes.
