House Of The Rising Sun (blues)

- This ain’t you Dad’s Rising Sun, unless your
Dad happens to be over 75. The original tune has it’s roots in a 17th century
British folk melody. The rising sun has been a longtime symbol for brothels
in British and American ballads It circulated widely among Southern musicians,
black and white. Black bluesman Texas Alexander first recorded it in 1928.
Roy Acuff may a few cuts of the tune. He may have learned this number from
Smoky Mountain artists such as Clarence Tom Ashley or the Callahan Brothers.
Most Blues albums had a cut of the tune in the 50’s
- This one is an attempted style from “Blues
in the Bottle (various artists) circa - sometime in the late 40’s or early
50’s and Tracy Nelson’s version on “Bluesville Years” circa 62
