- I did the song because I like it. Even though I don't completely
understand the words. They have a different meaning to me as I walk through
life. John Newton lived from 1725 to 1807. He also wrote the words for
How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds [1779] (must have been popular because
there are several arranges in several keys for this song) and Day of Judgment!
Day of Wonders [1774]. Edwin Excell lived from 1851 to 1921. He also did
the melody for Count Your Blessings in 1897 and composed the entire song
named Since I have Been Redeemed in 1884.
