Morals The declining morality of the people in this country (United States), has me deeply concerned. The motto here seems to be: "It's legal." When I say people, I'm mostly referring to the men and women in charge of the big media conglomerates, such as The New York Times, CBS News and Time Magazine. These big Corporations have the sources to travel the world over in search of a "news" story. If the story is not there, they fabricate one. Now, I don't know the size of the Koran that was supposedly flushed down a toilet by one of the defenders of this country, but it would either have to be "very" small, or made of toilet paper. The small Bible that I was issued by the Marine Corps, the little Bible that I carried with me throughout my tour of duty in Viet Nam, is too big to be flushed down a toilet. Now, I don't know this for a fact, but just look at the size of the hole in the bottom of the commode. Not all, but some of the big media are trying to discredit this Republican President because they don't like him. The president is our leader, and we should stand behind him. We may not always agree with the decisions he makes, but after all, he is our leader, and we should support and follow him. The "big news story" about the Koran was not about the defenders, but solely to discredit this president. Our country's protectors: the military and numerous agencies are trying to bring to justice those responsible for the terrorists acts upon this country which took hundreds of lives. They are also trying to prevent such an event from happening again. Have we already forgotten the horrors of 9/11? The news agencies that publicize stories such as this, are trying to destroy the very elements that give them the right to print them. Printing stories such as this, demeans us. They are helping the terrorists to destroy us. It makes one wonder whose side their on. It may not be right, but it's legal. Floyd H. Smith, Jr. May 23, 2005
Let's start with issues. What are the issues? Drugs are always an issue, but what can I say about drugs? Oh yeah, I know! I like drugs. I take them almost every day. You see, I'm an old man with chronic pain (neck and back), to be specific. I take a mild pain reliever that does not cause drowziness. On occasion, I have to drive myself into town for various reasons. Let's say that I have a doctor's appointment on a certain day. I don't know how much time has to pass before this drug won't show up on a drug test, so I stop taking it at least two days before my appointment. If I am involved in a wreck (even though it's not my fault), I will most likely be tested for drugs. If I tested positive (for a controled substance), I could spend what's left of my life in prison. Therefore, I must endure pain for three days. Now, the question is: Does this seem fair? fhs Urban Development The population in our little community has really increased in recent years. Just last week, I went to the Post Office to buy a stamp, and had to stand in line. fhs
