Iris Pendant #1
Sterling silver, 14k yellow gold, green agate, iolite, amethyst's, almadine, garnet, carnelian, citrine
An Iris is a mid-level Arts and Sciences award in the Kingdom of Ansteorra in the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA). Generally it is worn as a rainbow-striped ribbon around the shoulder, arm, or knee. A patron came to me with a request to make this design as a less obtrusive way of displaying the award. It is mostly sterling silver, with a backing of gold-filled sheet. This sheet has a layer of 14 K yellow gold bonded to a sheet of base metal. The result is more durable than gold plating, and considerable less costly than solid gold sheet. Here I have soldered the two layers together. This pendant is approximately 1.5 inches round.
