These coronets are made to conform with the sumptuary laws of various
kingdoms in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). All of them
were made on commission, and many are specific to the owner, as they
contain parts of their heraldic devices. (These heraldic devices can be
registered in the College of Heralds in the SCA.) They are modeled, some
loosely and some more closely, to coronets and crowns found in the time
period recreated by the SCA, 600-1600 AD. Though most period coronets
were cast or had cast parts, all of these are fabricated - created of
sheet metal, wire, and tubes (for some of the hinges). In addition, most
of these coronets are hinged. This is a period technique, dating back to
the Byzantine Empire. They are made of plaques joined edge to edge with
hinges so that they are more comfortable to wear.
