Mrs. Jane Blackerby has many leadership roles in our community. Mrs. Blackerby organized the local (Leonard) chapter of the TSTA (Texas State Teachers Association) in 1992 and served as president of it until retirement in 1998. She is still a member. Mrs. Blackerby told us to be a leader you need to have commitment, time, and lots of hard work. She taught school for twenty-nine years but retired in 1998 and became a Beta Club Sate Status Sponsor. She used to be a Beta Club State Sponsor through 1990-1992 before she retired. A downside to leadership you always hear complaints and criticism and when this happens you can't get away from your job. She said, also when you are a leader you have to know when to say no and never stop learning. Mrs. Blackerby is also the Democratic Precinct Chairman in our area.
